SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

OCF chapter 2: Sustainable
development is development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
VDPA 11. The right to development should be fulfilled so
as to meet equitably the developmental and environmental needs of present and
future generations.
SD Principle 6: In the
decision-making process it shall be recognized that man’s needs can be met only
by ensuring the proper functioning of natural systems and by respecting the
principles set forth in the present Charter.
DRPG article 1. Needs and
interests of future generations: The present generations have the
responsibility of ensuring that the needs and interests of present and future
generations are fully safeguarded.
UNMD 22. We reaffirm our support for the principles of
sustainable development, including those set out in Agenda 21, agreed upon at
the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.
OCF chapter II p44-45:
Sustainable development requires the promotion of values that encourage
consumptions standards that are within the bounds of the ecological possible
and to which all can reasonably aspire... At a minimum, sustainable development
must not endanger the natural systems that support life on Earth: the
atmosphere, the waters, the soils, and the living beings.
